Summary: Sharon chases after Brenda.
“Brenda, wait!” Sharon called, catching Brenda at the elevator bank. The blonde pressed the down button repeatedly.
“Wait for what?” Brenda scoffed. “Please, I don’t want to cry in the hallway.”
“You don’t have to shoulder this alone. We’ll fight it. I’ll fight with you.”
“I don’t want to fight, Sharon, I’m tired. I’m so tired of fighting for every inch.”
“What’re you saying? You’re just gonna quit?”
Brenda sighed. “Maybe I made it a little bit easier for the women who came after me. Maybe that will be enough. I know you don’t think so; I know you think I should be leaning in but, for God’s sake, Sharon, I’m so tired.”
The elevator doors slid open. “I want you with me to the bitter end.” Brenda stepped into the elevator car. “There’s no one else I would ever want in my corner. You are a force to be reckoned with; you are the most dedicated and passionate officer I have ever met. I don’t want to be your professional problem.”
Sharon put her hand over the door to keep it from shutting.
“You should probably distance yourself from me professionally.”
“I don’t need your permission to fight against something that’s wrong.” Sharon insisted. “’The Johnson Rule’ is basically putting you in the stocks and pelting you with tomatoes. It’s wrong.”
“Can you just come home with me so I can cry on your shoulder and get sloppy drunk?” Brenda reached out her hand.
She nodded. “Of course, darling.”
