“I’m so glad you changed your mind.” Strauss smiled with relief when she opened the door to see Alex Blake on her doorstep.
“Yeah.” Blake nodded as she stepped inside. “Can we have a drink to take the edge off?”
“I’m a recovering alcoholic, Alex.” Strauss frowned.
“Right… I… I don’t know if I can commit adultery sober.” Blake sighed, sinking down onto the couch.
“We don’t have to do anything you don’t want.” Strauss said reassuringly, sitting next to her former lover.
Blake cupped Strauss’s cheeks and pulled her in for a deep kiss.
“I want you.” She whispered.
“Now that’s taking the edge off…” Blake panted as she fell back against Strauss’s down comforter.
Strauss watched her intently.
“What?” Blake laughed self-consciously.
“You’re more beautiful now than you were twenty years ago.”
“Stop.” Blake blushed.
“I’m sorry for everything that happened between us. I’m sorry for not fighting for you.” Strauss began.
“I was mad for a long time but I was wrestling my own demons too.” Blake said. “And I do believe that everything happens for a reason.”
“I’m so glad we’ve come back to each other.”
“And that might be even more complicated now than before.”
“I was wondering when you’d tell me.” Rossi sipped his scotch..
Strauss furrowed her brow. “You knew?”
“I’m a profiler, Erin. You pulled me out of retirement yourself because I’m the best.”
Strauss nodded. “Fair enough.”
“I just want you to be happy.” Rossi insisted. “I wish it was with me… but I can accept that it’s not. It’s hard to compete with history.”
“I’ve never really been able to put her behind me.” Strauss admitted. “But until recently, I didn’t think there was a chance she’d have me again.”
“Blake’s a lucky woman.” Rossi toasted. “Actually you both are.”
“You don’t have to do anything today.” Strauss said, trying to catch the pacing Blake. “I understand you waiting for him to be home to tell him.”
“I was but I’m starting to feel like I’m living a lie and I don’t want to do that anymore.” Blake sighed, stopping and turning to stand toe-to-toe with the blonde. She took Strauss’s hands, “I know Rossi said he’d keep it to himself until I told James… I just, I’m tired of keeping it to myself.”
Strauss ran her fingers through Blake’s hair. “You do what you have to do, my love.”
