They stare across the table where the three of them have shared so much and face their best friend together once again. This should be easy -- they know Rose loves them --, yet it's anything but easy. Blanche blows out her pent up breath in a sigh and looks across the table to Dorothy. Her imploring gaze begs her to take control, but she can't -- not yet. Instead, she looks to Rose. "Another slice?" she offers, picking up the knife.
Rose nods but watches her carefully. "After," she says, "you two tell me what's going on. What's wrong? Where's Sophia?"
"She hasn't made it back from her date last night," Blanche says, suggestively waggling her eyebrows.
"I don't have a pet right now," Rose says slowly, watching both of them, "so you can't be about to tell me one of them's died. Oh, gosh! But you are about to tell me some one's died, aren't you?!"
"Of course not!" Dorothy cuts into the cheesecake.
"Then what is it? Oh, no! You want me to move out, don't you? You want me to move out so you can have the place by yourselves!"
"Rose," Blanche soothes, covering one of her hands with her own, "that's nonsense! Why would we want the place to ourselves?!"
"Because -- Because -- You know!"
"No, Ah don't. Why?"
"So you and Dorothy can -- can -- You know!"
The knife thuds into the pie pan. Dorothy stares at Rose. "You already know."
"Know? Know what?"
"That we're together."
"Of course I know! And that's why you want me to move out!"
Blanche starts to laugh.
"It's not funny!" Rose pouts.
"Rose, dahlin', we don't want you to move out. We just want you to know."
"Know? Know what?"
"What you already know."
"I can name every one of the Mouseketeers -- "
"Not the Mouseketeers, damn it, Rose! We want you to know we're together."
"I already know that!"
"And you already accept it," Blanche breathes. She looks up to Dorothy. "Maybe this will be easier than Ah thought."
"I told you," Dorothy says, lifting and kissing her hand, "those who matter won't care, and those who care won't matter."
"So . . . you don't want me to move out?"
"Of course not!"
"And we're still one happy family?"
Blanche pats her hand. "Happier than we've ever been before, dahling."
